Science & Humanities

The Department of Science and Humanities was founded in the year 2008 and follows the curriculum of Anna University, Chennai. It inculcates basic knowledge in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English which is the foundation of engineering education .The Department has 21 dedicated faculty members. The Department has taken great strides in enriching students through application oriented learning, student seminars and guest lectures. The college enables the student to actively involve in interactive learning and acquires language skills by participating in group discussions, presentations and debates.

The Department of English is fully equipped with a good language laboratory to impart the language skills effectively.

The department of Mathematics helps the student to acquire mathematical and statistical knowledge and skills appropriate to professional activities and demonstrate highest standards of ethical issues in mathematics

Physics provides quantitative and analytic skills needed for analyzing data and solving problems in the sciences and engineering.

The study of Chemistry is essential for understanding the effects of chemicals On the environment and how to dispose of chemicals without poisoning the air or Water supply. Equally important is the study of Environmental Chemistry and engineering to save the globe from pollutions.

Objectives:

  • To provide the students a chance to put theory into practice.
  • To get familiar with Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, PH meter, Conductometer and Potentiometer and give them experimental skills.
  • To calculate the various parameters and characteristics of water using PH meter.
  • To understand the basic principles of Spectrometer and Flame Photometer

Objectives:

  • To develop scientific temper and encourage students to innovate in diverse technical areas for better understanding of technical and engineering problems.
  • To practically understand the fundamentals of the theory through a vast range of experiments.
  • Experiments are conducted in the laboratory with the aim of making the budding engineers effectively use mathematical, scientific, and modern engineering tools.
  • Apart from the basic experiments, a separate dark room is established for performing Newton rings experiment, diffraction grating and other laser optics related experiments.

The freshers day for first year was celebrated on 18th August,2017. The opening day programme started with a prayer song followed by the bible reading read by second year ECE department student Ajay and Rev.Fr.Valan blessed the occasion by special prayer , Which was followed by lighting of the Lamp. A welcoming dance was performed by the college girls.

Our Principal inchargeMr.Navaneethakrishnan welcomed the gathering, and Assistant professor FaustinaJeba Rose introduced the Department heads of all the departments.

A Special speech was given by Ms.Nancy of final year mechanical department and Ms.Pavithra of ECE share their experience at the College.

Later Dr.R.Palayandi IAS (Rtd) ,Director of Quality Management ,DFT gave the key note address, Which was followed by a motivational talk given by chief guest Mr.k.Deenadayalan.

At the middle of program the chief guest distribute prizes for winners in sports. Finally after the proposing of Vote of thanks by Rev.Fr.Savariappan, The College Choir sang College Anthem .Finally the celebration came to an ending through National Anthem sung by college choir.

BRIDGE COURSE 2017

The Bridge course for first year had started on 26thjuly 2017. The opening day programme started with a prayer song followed by the bible reading and special prayer which was done by Rev.Fr.Savariappan, later Principal Dr.Ananth J.P welcome the gathering as well as the freshers. Special address was given by Rev.Fr.Manoj . Finally the vote of thanks was given by First year Head Mrs. Sheeja.

In that afternoon session, Games were conducted for first year students by Physical Director .

On 27th July, we arranged Dr.Subramanian present a guest lecture on English “How to learn English through fun” On 28th July English department had played an English motivational movie for the first year students.On 31th July to 4th August Dr. James and team from step up training initiative motivate the students to learn English for empowerment., students are divided into five groups and sent them to various classroom to do various activities.

On 24.01.2018, Our college organized a cultural programme in the name of “CULTURAL FEST 2K18” for the students to showcase their talents in fine arts. Mr.K.PALANI(MLA), SRIPERUMBUDUR, PANCHAYAT PRESIDENT Mr.CHIDHAMBARAM, VIJAY TV KALAKA POVADHU YARU FAME Mr.SATHISH AND VIJAY TV CASTING DIRECTOR Mr.MANIKANDANwere the Chief Guest for the cultural fest. The cultural programme was started with a prayer song by the choir students and a prayer service by Rev. Fr. Visuvasa Alexander to invoke God’s blessings. The chief guest and the dignitaries lighted the lamp as a tradition to enlighten the programme with brightness. Welcome address was delivered by Rev Fr. Savariapan, Account Manager. The Chief Guest were honoured with a shawl and momento. Chief Guest of the day addressed the gathering with their inspirational words. And Mr.K.PALANI(MLA) Sanctioned for the approval of water supply to our college. Chief Guest greatness was delivered by the student Ms.Philomina.S, final year ECE dept.Mr.K.PALANI(MLA) distributed prize for our college VOLLEYBALL team who secured RUNNER-UP in inter college tournament held in CIT COLLEGE. Department wise students performed their events. Special performances were given by first year students and staff. Overall FIRSTPLACE was won by MECHANICAL AND CIVIL DEPT and SECOND PLACE by CSE AND IT DEPT. As a sign of thanks giving, Mrs.FaustinaJeya Rose, Asst.prof, CSE dept proposed Vote of Thanks. Christmas day was celebrated on 22.12.2017 in Muthiah Auditorium. The programme started with a prayer song followed by the bible reading read by our Staff Mr. Arockiya Dolphin and Rev.Fr.Biswas blessed the occasion by special prayer , Which was followed by lighting of the Lamp.A welcoming dance was performed by the college girls. The whole programme filled with carols, dance and mimes.

Our Administrator Rev.Fr.S.Xavier Manoj welcomed the gathering. Chief guest Rev.Fr.Dr.A.MariaArul Raja, Arul Kadal Jesuit Theology Centre,Chennai preside over the function .

A Christmas speech was given by chief guest Rev.Fr.Dr.A.Maria Arul Raja. At the middle of program the chief guest distribute prizes for winners in sports. Our staff and non-teaching staff received gifts from our administrator Rev.Fr.S.Xavier Manoj. At the end of the programe Santa Claus arrived and filled the entire crowd with joy and dance with everyone with great enthusiasm. All students enjoyed the beats of jingle bells cakes were distributed to all. Vote of thanks was proposed by Rev.Fr.Savariappan, The College Choir sang College Anthem .Finally the celebration came to an ending through National Anthem sung by our college choir.

NSS unit of St Joseph College Sriperumpudur organized a special camp in the government hospital Sriperumpudur on 06-04-2018 .The Volunteers of the NSS unit performed activities like cleaning the hospital campus and its gardens. The Inauguration Program was held at St Joseph College Sriperumpudur. 30 boys and 20 girl volunteer attended the NSS camp along with three staff members Mr. Dinesh Shibi ,Mr.Velmurugan and Mrs.Leegeja.

The programme was started with prayer by our college administrator. The inaugural speech was delivered by our college principal. Hospital authorities welcomed the team of Volunteers into their hospital and assured them all sorts of co-operation needed in making the camp clean and tidy. During the afternoon session Volunteers were provided with snacks and juices. After cleaning the hospital campus volunteers returned back to the college by 2.00 pm.
